Texas Mom Who Killed Son Says She Wants To Go to Heaven With Him Now

Christians- how would you respond to this lady?

This is the full text of the article titled “Defense attorney: Texas mom charged in slay case wants to join son in heaven” appearing in the May 19, 2011 Boston Globe, which you can access here:

The defense attorney for a Texas woman who is charged with killing her 6-year-old son and dumping him on a Maine road last weekend said this morning that she loved her son and wanted to join him in heaven.

Julianne McCrery “loves her son. He’s dead. He’s in heaven. She wants to be with him,” said George Murphy. “She said over and over again I want to go to heaven.”

McCrery has tried to kill herself at least three times before, he said, by overdosing on drugs, carbon monoxide exhaust from a car, and eating castor beans

Murphy spoke to reporters this morning at Concord District Court, where McCrery is slated to be arraigned today on a fugitive of justice charge. Read the rest of this entry

No Monday Morning Rewind Today

There won’t be a Monday Morning Rewind today because I didn’t preach yesterday.  Instead, Central was blessed by the preaching of Dr. Jack Kwok from the SCBO.  Our worship time also welcomed Dwayne Lee from the SCBO leading music for us in a different way than we were used to.  It was a great blessing to have these two men with us.

Dr. Kwok’s sermon can be found on our sermon page.  It was an excellent message on the reality of heaven from 2 Corinthians 5.

The blessing of this worship time was the experience of truly being in the Lord’s presence and feeling his Spirit among us.  We saw a young lady come to rededicate her life Jesus and submit to Him as He puts the pieces of her life back together! We saw hearts drawn together in prayer as a response to the Scripture that was preached.

This is the time for our church to live intentionally.  My prayer is that the message and excitement from today goes outside of our building!

Monday Morning Rewind: The Judgment of God at the End Time

Yesterday’s sermon was part of the series I’m preaching through the letters to the Thessalonians.  Next week, I’ll continue in 2 Thessalonians.  In the context of 2 Thessalonians 1, this sermon dealt with answering 2 common questions in our world today- why do bad things happen to good people? and why would a loving God send people to hell? You can listen to this sermon here.

The 2 questions:

Why do bad things happen to good people? One reason we suffer is to prepare us for heaven. The Thessalonians were obviously still struggling with persecution.  And Paul writes that their suffering is the evidence of the righteous judgment of God.  Suffering doesn’t automatically make us worthy of heaven; but suffering demonstrates our worthiness.  We are given the free gift of God’s grace, and when we face affliction, it is refining us to reveal that grace working in us- therefore, God gets all the glory.
